How it's calculated
The final value fee is a percentage of the total sale, including shipping and sales tax. Higher priced items pay a lower rate on the part of the price above each category's threshold, such as $7,500 for most categories.
Profit is the sold price plus shipping charged, minus eBay's fees, your item cost and your shipping cost. Sales tax is collected and passed on, so it's not counted as revenue, but eBay still charges its fee on it.
Fees from the eBay selling fees help page (US), last reviewed 2026-10-16. eBay Store subscribers may get lower final value fees in some categories.
Questions sellers ask
How much does eBay take from a sale?
In most categories eBay charges a final value fee of 13.6% of the total sale up to $7,500, plus $0.40 per order ($0.30 for orders of $10 or less). Some categories such as books, guitars and trading cards have different rates.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, shipping the buyer pays, and sales tax.
What does Promoted Listings cost?
With Promoted Listings General you choose an ad rate, a percentage of the sale, and pay it only when a buyer clicks your ad and buys within 30 days. Enter that rate in the calculator for sales that came from an ad.
Are eBay listings free?
Most sellers get 250 free listings a month, more with an eBay Store. After that, most categories charge a $0.35 insertion fee per listing, whether or not the item sells.
What is the eBay international fee?
If you ship to a buyer outside the US yourself instead of using eBay International Shipping, eBay adds 1.65% of the total sale.
