A $50 sale is never $50.

Every platform takes its cut before the money reaches you. Pick where you sell and see your receipt.

Where do you sell?
Amazon payoutOrder #1042, 1 item
Sale$50.00
Referral fee (15%)-$7.50
Total fees-$7.50 (15.0%)
You keep$42.50

Referral fee in most categories (15%), seller-fulfilled.

Where does your $40 go?

One sale, four platforms. The amber slice is what each one takes before you get paid.

Sale price

Tip: try $10. Fixed per-order fees take a much bigger share of cheap items, so the order of the platforms can change with your price.

Selling and payment fees only, US sellers: Amazon most categories, Shopify Basic with Shopify Payments, Etsy without Offsite Ads, eBay most categories. Tap a platform for the full calculator with shipping, ads and more.

An item that costs $12, and you want a 40% margin

Charge $20.00

That leaves $8.00 profit (a 67% markup). Adding 40% to the cost would only give a 28.6% margin.

Questions sellers ask

Are these calculators free?

Yes. Every tool on MarginKit is free, with no sign-up and no limits.

Is my data private?

Yes. All calculations run in your browser. The numbers, client details and logos you enter are never sent to or stored on our servers.

How current are the fees?

Each calculator uses the fees the platform currently publishes and shows the date they were last checked. When a platform announces new fees, the calculator is updated.

Which platform has the lowest fees?

On selling and payment fees alone, your own Shopify store usually takes the smallest cut, then Etsy, eBay and Amazon. But marketplaces bring you buyers, while a Shopify store needs its own traffic, so compare your full costs, including ads, with each platform's calculator.
