How it's calculated

Profit is the selling price minus product cost, Amazon's referral fee, the fulfillment fee (FBA or your own shipping), inbound costs and your ad cost per sale. Margin is profit divided by price; ROI is profit divided by product cost.

Referral fees use Amazon's category schedule. Some categories charge one rate on the whole price based on its level (Clothing, Beauty, Baby, Grocery), while others charge each rate only on the part of the price in that band (Furniture, Jewelry, Watches, Electronics Accessories).

FBA fees come from the standard-size rate card effective January 15, 2026, picked by size tier, shipping weight and price band, with the optional 3.5% fuel surcharge on top. For bulky items, use "FBA (my own fee)" with the figure from Seller Central.

Break-even price is the lowest price at which profit reaches zero, recalculating the fees that change with price.

Fee data last reviewed 2026-10-16. Amazon can change fees at any time, so confirm with your Seller Central fee preview before making pricing decisions.

Questions sellers ask

How much is the Amazon referral fee?

It depends on the category. Most categories charge 15% of the selling price, electronics and computers charge 8%, and some categories use tiers based on price. Every item pays at least $0.30.

What is the Amazon FBA fuel surcharge?

Since April 17, 2026 Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on top of FBA fulfillment fees in the US and Canada. It is calculated on the fulfillment fee, not the selling price.

Why does the FBA fee change with my selling price?

Since January 15, 2026, FBA fulfillment fees for standard-size items are charged in three price bands: under $10, $10 to $50, and over $50. Cheaper items get a lower fee.

Does this include storage fees?

No. Monthly storage, aged inventory, low-inventory and peak-season fees vary with how long and when your stock sits in Amazon warehouses. Add an estimate per unit to the inbound field if you want them included.

What is a good profit margin on Amazon?

Many sellers aim for a net margin of 20% to 30% after all Amazon fees, shipping and ads, and treat anything under about 10% as risky, because returns, storage fees or a price drop can quickly wipe it out. Margin alone is not the full picture: also check your ROI, since a 25% margin on a $10 product earns far less per sale than the same margin on a $50 one. Use the calculator to test prices until both numbers work for you.
